3. Wednesday 22nd April
Good morning year 5,
The sun is shining again and i'm sitting at my desk in a very quiet school, I can hear the birds singing outside. In a minute I need to get ready for the children who come to school everyday. We use the Year 2 classroom to work in, there is usually about 12 children. Miss Hodson is going to be working with me today.
Today is Earth Day! I like to think that while we are all staying safe at home the earth is having a rest. There are so many signs around the world that the earth is just taking time to recharge her batteries. I have read about the water in the canals in Venice, the mountains in India and air pollution.
In Venice the canals are usually really busy with gondolas, boats and people. As the city is so quiet the water has become crystal clear and you can see the bottom. After 30 years some parts of India are now able to see Everest! That is incredible- this is because the sky is clear and free from pollution. I also read that air pollution on the UK has been reduced by 30%. These are amazing facts. You could find out other things that have happened while the earth is resting- send me an email to let me know what you find out. I love facts.
The theme of Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action, it is also the 50th anniversary of this day. Have a look at the resources at the bottom of the page this afternoon, there is a powerpoint you could look at and some activities you could do. There are some great climate action cards so you can think about what can do to help the Earth.
Today is hump day- when you read along with the next part of chapter 1 you might see a furry friend of mine making an appearance.
Have a good day, keep up all the good work that you are doing.
Love, Mrs O'Neil
