Phonics- Little Wandle
Our school uses Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to teach phonics.
We have daily phonics lesson and reading books that matches our phonics ability.
We read in school 3 times a week, each read focused on a different aspect of reading decoding, prosody and comprehension. When the children bring their books home on a Friday they should be reading the book with fluency. The children will be frequently assessed to ensure the book they are on matches their phonics ability.
Click here to go to the parents page of the Little Wandle website. This page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos, so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.
The attachments below:
- The letter formation sheets will help your child to form their letters correctly. Use the rhymes to help support this.
- The pronunciation guide will help you to say the sounds right and tell you what to do with your mouth.
- The grapheme mat are a useful resource to have out when your child is writing to help them to remember what the sounds look like in words. We use these in school when the children are writing.
