Year 6

Welcome to our class!

Our teachers are Mrs Holt and Mrs O'Neil. Mrs Holt teaches the class Monday-Wednesday and Mrs O'Neil teaches us on Thursday and Friday. and Mr Seuke teaches us PE on Mondays and Fridays.

Please see the link at the bottom of this page for more useful information about our class.

We have an exciting curriculum planned for this year, with some great learning opportunities ahead. Each term we follow a cross-curricular topic.

Autumn Term

Wartime Children  - The Home Front and Family Life in WWII

Our cross-curricular topic for the autumn term is history-focused and looks to commemorate the recent 80th anniversary of evacuation at the start of WWII. We will start by thinking about our local area and what life was like during the 1930s and 1940s. We will be spending several weeks studying the book and film ‘Carrie's War’ by Nina Bawden. The book will enable children to gain understanding of what life was like for children during World War II. The children will be invited to dress up as an evacuee and to take part in a special WWII day towards the end of term.

Spring Term

Island Life - Geography and land use in the British Isles and beyond.

In the spring term, our geography-focused topic explores island life around the world. We will find out how islands are formed, what makes them unique, what life on small island is like and how climate change may threaten island life in the future.

Summer Term

Changes Ahead - Transition and Change in Year 6

In the summer, our attention turns towards the future  and reflects upon the past. We celebrate life at Holy Family School and look forward to life in secondary school. We think about how we have grown and changed and how we can prepare for the next phase in our lives.
